Sometimes it's inspiring to hear what talented folks can do when they simply huddle together in a circle with acoustic instruments and let 'er rip. Portland's Foghorn Stringband certainly had that effect as the quintet huddled around one microphone for a few hours of soaring roots music, full of great workouts for the mandolin, fiddle, banjo, standup bass and guitar. The vocals worked well, with all the members harmonizing on cuts such as "Sittin' on Top of the World," but the true treats were songs when the members pushed each other through winding instrumentals.
